The micro-factory
At Quirky Moose we make colourful, characterful furniture by hand in our Copenhagen micro-factory.
Micro-factory means just what it sounds like: a small workshop, short production runs, and a real person — not a production line — behind every piece. We design the furniture, and we build it too.

How we build
From board to furniture
-
Material
Every piece starts with a material we've chosen with care: Valchromat®, solid oak or birch plywood.
-
Mill
The boards are milled out in our workshop in Copenhagen SV — in short runs.
-
Assemble
The parts are glued and assembled by hand.
-
Sand and oil
Every piece is hand-sanded and finished with Rubio Monocoat®, a plant-based hard wax oil.
It takes longer than spraying on a lacquer — and it's why our surfaces age gracefully instead of wearing thin.
Materials
We don't paint
our furniture.
You should be able to see what your furniture is made of. So we add no paint and no artificial surface: Valchromat® is coloured all the way through, and oak and birch are left to look like wood. Scratch a coloured surface and you'll find the same colour underneath.
We choose our oil and glue the same way. The oil contains no solvents — for our sake in the workshop, and for yours at home.

Who builds your furniture
“I want you to be able to see what a piece of furniture is made of. That's why we don't paint anything. The colour is in the board itself, and the oak gets to be wood.”
Our designs are playful but considered: bold colour, clean lines, and details that earn their place.
